Well done, Taco Bell. Well done, indeed. We couldn’t have picked a better day to resurrect Le Tour de Fork. Today the world was introduced to the Doritos Tacos Locos, a Taco Bell taco wrapped in a Doritos taco shell.
Since Le Tour’s team members are back our respective cities, we had to sample the goods on our own, over the phone.
Being the lady??? I am, I opted for two Tacos Locos Supreme here in LA, while Jesse in Denver went for the Big Box (Tacos Locos Supreme, Beef Burrito Supreme, Crunchy Taco), an additional Tacos Locos Supreme, an order of Pizza Hut Bread Sticks with a side of Type 2 Diabetes … does someone have a hangover?
We enjoyed or feasts together over the phone. The Tacos Locos Supreme were the meal highlight. They taste very similar to a Crunchy Taco Supreme with a Doritos cheesy aftertaste. The Doritos Dust is out of control on these guys. I had a thick coat of orange on my fingers and an orange smile on my face.
We’re happy to report that Taco Bell has stated on their Facebook page that the Tacos Locos Supreme will remain a permanent menu item. I’m hoping they introduce at Cheesy Gordita Locos Crunch soon. That would be divine.
Chris Dodd, the former Connecticut senator and the MPAA’s chief lobbyist, thinks that Google, Reddit and Wikipedia are abusing their power in the fight against SOPA:
“It is an irresponsible response and a disservice to people who rely on them for information and who use their services,”…
Getting down to the 11th hour on the Tour. Another Columbus favorite - Donoto’s. Three mini’s for a family mid-day snack - cheese for Gretchen, pepperoni for Candy, and a Founder’s Favorite for Phil.
Following a sauce-making class with my niece, my dad and I picked up some food from City Barbecue. Since I don’t want to plump up too much throughout this tour, I opted for a Smoked Chicken Salad, which was great. My dad went for the Rib Sandwich with baked beans. We also picked up the Chicken Sandwich, which was to die for … definitely trying it again. The Mac and Cheese is always a hit with my little niece. The service was incredibly nice, always a pleasure to eat at City Barbecue.
Club 185 - a New Year’s Eve tradition! Wings, cheeseburgers, pizza and Stella (not pictured).
Le Tour de Fork wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the legendary Katzinger’s Delicatessen in German Village. I was very very shaky, so the pictures aren’t great, but the food was. I had a #41, the Phil’s Katzinger Club: chicken salad with lettuce, tomato, applewood smoked bacon and Honeycup honey mustard on rye. My dad opted for #21, Gene’s Free Lunch: Hot corned beef, roast beef, Swiss cheese, coleslaw, Russian dressing on pumpernickel.
Excited to see Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream getting a mention in the December 2011 issue of Woman’s Day Magazine.
The national magazine featured the Columbus based company’s 4-Pint pack on page 21 of its Holiday gift guide, “50 Holiday Gifts that Wow.” The magazine highlighted the…

Christmas morning wouldn’t be complete without a trip to Block’s with my dad :) He always gets a Rueben, even at 9 a.m. I split something with my mom. This time it was an everything bagel with cream cheese, tomato and onion.
